10 Simple Spring Cleaning Tips

spring cleaning tips, spring

With spring less than a week away you’re probably itching to get your home cleaned up and ready for summertime living. For some that might simply mean a little dusting, but for most it means getting down and dirty and battling not just scum and dust that’s built up over the winter, but also loads of random stuff that can probably be donated to the Goodwill. We’ve put together a list of 10 easy to follow spring cleaning tips that will ensure your home is in tip top shape.

Make a Playlist | Compile your favorite songs on a spring cleaning playlist so you can have fun while cleaning. With the right songs you might even find yourself having a spring cleaning dance party!

Set Goals | Set a goal for when you want your spring cleaning completed by. Once you reach that goal reward yourself with a relaxing at home spa day or your favorite meal.

Be Patient | Spring cleaning is a process. Don’t get frustrated with yourself just because you might fall behind one day or see a ton of work that has to be done. Work through each room little by little and eventually you’ll reach your goal.

Take Inventory | Take inventory of your cleaning supplies and make a list of everything you might need. This includes paper towels, sponges, spray bottles, trash bags, air freshener, and rubber gloves.

Involve The Kids | Give each child a list of tasks for them to complete. This will lift a lot of the smaller tasks from your shoulders, gives children a sense of ownership, and also teaches responsibility. Plus, it’s their home too. They should play a part in keeping it neat and orderly.

Create a Schedule | Just because it’s time for spring cleaning doesn’t mean that everything else in your life slows down. Take a minute to create a schedule where you complete your spring cleaning in stages (probably over several weekends). Remember to reserve one day a week for down time/ family time.

Clean Appliances | Use this season to clean your appliances and perform routine maintenance. Change the air filters in your furnace, clean your washing machine, and run some vinegar through your dishwasher. When your appliances are maintained you get more life out of them and don’t have to worry about them breaking down.

Get Rid of Clutter | Go through each room and make “keep,” “donate,” and “trash” piles. This will clear out a significant amount of trash, free up space, and make cleaning much easier.

Go Green | Did you know that vinegar, baking soda, and dish soap are pretty much all you need to get your spring cleaning done? Vinegar is a natural anti-bacterial agent; baking soda a natural abrasive; and dish soap a great way to deodorize and decrease. Mix up different solutions in spray bottles to meet your cleaning needs and you’ll save money while being more earth friendly. For example, fill a bottle with a 1:1 ratio of water and vinegar and use to clean glass. Using the same bottle spray your toilet and sprinkle some baking soda to get rid of any stains and deodorize.

A Little Fresh Air | Opening the windows and airing out your house is severely underrated. After being closed up for an entire winter your home needs to breathe! Do it a favor and open every window so you can kick out the old stale air and let in some fresh, clean air.
