One of the most exciting parts of moving in to a new home is decorating and putting your own personal touches on it. Of course, moving in itself is expensive, so decorating on a budget is typically the first priority of most home owners. If your new home is in need of window treatments and buying blinds just isn’t in the budget, consider making your own curtains. It’s much easier than it seems and doesn’t even require a sewing machine!

Tutorial A

Items Needed

  • Glue gun
  • Thick ribbon tabs
  • Shower curtain that will fit your window

Finding fabric shower curtains that work as curtain panels is pretty easy. Of course, you can go to the store and pick up new curtains, but that can run anywhere from $25-$50 per panel. Instead try hitting up the dollar store and local thrift stores. You can oftentimes find practically new items for pennies on the dollar.

Cut your ribbon so that it attaches to the back of your panels and can fit the rod through without too much slack. To attach the ribbon to the back of your panels simply hot glue or use washable fabric glue. Voila!

Tutorial B

Items Needed

  • Two flat twin sheets
  • Scissors
  • Curtain rod
  • Hem tape

Cut the slits in your twin sheet and slide your curtain rod through. It should fit perfectly. Once you’re through with this step seal using hem tape and hang up. It really is that simple!

Making your own curtains without having to sew is super easy. You shouldn’t feel limited just because sewing is daunting. Instead, take out some basic supplies you probably have sitting around the house and get to work. Your new home will look great and it won’t cost you a ton of money!
