Natural Fall Air Fresheners

Nothing makes a house a home more than the delightful, cozy scents of fall. Spicy cinnamon, tart apples, and sweet brown sugar all combine to form a welcoming scent of fresh baked pie that will leave you eager to come home. Of course, sometimes you’ve got a lot on your hands and can’t find the time to bake a delicious apple pie. From Friday night football games to school projects, there’s always something to be done.

Knowing the health of your family is your first priority, we put together two natural recipes for uniquely warm natural fall scented air fresheners that make your home smell like fall has decided to have a party in your house! And, the best thing about these air fresheners is they can be quickly popped in a slow cooker and left simmering all day, so you can walk into your home after an exhausting day, put on your favorite comfy clothes, and enjoy the scents of fall with very little work.

Unlike other air fresheners that are costly and overpowering, these natural remedies include everyday ingredients you’ll find in your pantry or local grocery store and lend a light scent to your home’s atmosphere.

For each of the following recipes, combine in the slow cooker of your choice on low. Modify the recipes to include enough liquid to avoid evaporation if you plan to leave your home. If you’re feeling really adventurous, try letting your children help mix the solution you choose. Just remind them the slow cooker can get hot.

  • 4 Cinnamon stick OR a tablespoon of ground cinnamon

  • A teaspoon of vanilla extract

clovesCelebratory Citrus

  • 2 Whole oranges sliced

  • Cloves

  • Vanilla extract

An alternate version of Celebratory Citrus is even easier to make. Simply take an entire orange and plug the cloves into it. The mixture of clove and orange oil lasts for about a week and creates a lovely air freshener that doesn’t require you to haul out your slow cooker! Kids especially love this project because it can be seen on display and they can claim it as their contribution to the home.
