Fishing

This forest has over 4,000 miles of streams and 1,600 acres of lakes and ponds. Over 400 acres of┬áthe Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Lake Hinkle is included in the lake acreage.┬áBream, crappie, catfish, striped bass, and largemouth bass can be caught in open waters or quiet coves.

 

Wildlife Viewing

Many wildlife viewing options are available at Ouachita. Most notably, Red Slough Wildlife Management Area. This space is of 5,000 area of a wetland project that was created to restore hydrology and re-establish bottomland hardwoods. It’s managed by the USDA Forest Shrive, Oklahoma Departmet of Wildlife Conservation, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service. You’ll find ample opportunity to view various bird species and waterfowl.
