Optimize Your Home Office With These Efficiency Tips

When you are working from home or in the midst of a difficult project, it can be difficult to stay on task, particularly if you are not used to working in a home office. Fortunately, there are several ways that you can really optimize your workspace at home to make the most of your time. Check out these awesome tips to help maximize the efficiency in your home office.

  • Ditch Distractions- one of the biggest challenges to working in a home office is the presence of distractions. The laundry needs done, the dishes need put away, your favorite show is on in ten minutes; all of these things can hinder your ability to work out of a home office.  We build offices and libraries in to many of our Solitaire Homes which makes it easy to set up and get to work in no time.  Have a Solitaire Home without an office?  An extra bedroom can do the job just fine.
  • Honor Hours – have set hours in your home office and stick to them. It can be so easy to get started late or finish early; or even work later than you expected to, simply because you are home! Remember, if you were working in a traditional office, you would have to be there during a specific time. Apply that principal to your home office.

  • Listen to Lists – Make a list of everything that you need to do in a given day. Work through them and check off items as you go. Make sure that you do not give yourself too much to do in a given day or too little. Have a realistic idea of what you can accomplish and set out to accomplish it.
  • Take Time-outs – Just because you are home doesn’t mean you do not need breaks. When it’s time for lunch, step away from the office and eat in a separate room. Spend that time reading a book or listening to music. Take a mini-break of five to ten minutes every hour or two to maximize your concentration. This will make it easier for you to focus when you are in work-mode.

When it comes to working in a home office, there are so many things that can get you off track. Just try to think of your home office as a place where work is done and nothing else. That way, when you step into the home office, you automatically enter work-mode and put all distractions out of your mind.
