Prepare your Home for the Holidays

As the leaves begin to change colors, our thoughts start to turn towards the holiday season. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years; all of them come and go so quickly that, if we blink too fast, we may miss them! That is why it is important to prepare your house ahead of time so that you can relax and enjoy them as they come and go. Here are a few things that you can do to prepare your house for the lightning-fast holiday season to make it stress-free.

Prepare for the Holidays

Prep For Guests – many people have guests over at their houses at some point during the fall and winter season for the holidays. This means that having a dedicated guest room is extremely helpful for managing space. However, not everyone has the luxury of a free space. If that is the case, make sure that you work out where your guests can stay during their trips. If you need to empty out a kid’s room for a few days, plan out where they will stay during that time. Keep your kitchen stocked with quick and easy meals that can feed the whole family or snacks to keep everyone’s hunger at bay during cooking time.

Decorations – if you are a decorator, keeping your house on theme can be a part-time job in itself. This is all well and good, but you just want to make sure you don’t let it overtake your holidays. When the fall decorations are being replaced by Thanksgiving decorations, decide how long you want to leave the turkeys out before you put out snowmen. Try not to leave the decorating until just a few days before the big event or you may find yourself knee-deep in tinsel while your family is already sipping on the egg-nog.

Keep it Clean – decorating goes hand-in-hand with cleaning. Keeping a clean house, especially during crowded holidays, can seem like a ridiculous pipe-dream. However, all it takes is staying ahead of the mess. The boys track in mud after their hunting trip and you’ve got dinner that night? Sweep it quickly and move on. (Or, better yet, get the boys to do it!) Don’t wait until the last minute when everything is happening at once.

There are so many considerations to keep in mind when preparing for the holidays, but the main thing is to remember that they are just that — holidays. They are there for you to enjoy, not stress out about.
